Color

A diamond's body color can range from totally colorless to light yellow and is graded a letter on a scale from D through Z.  The whiter or more colorless the stone, the more valuable, because the absence of color is more rare. Less color in the stone also makes it easier for light to pass through the stone and be dispersed into a spectrum of colors, like a rainbow.
